1. Travel Cubes.

Travel cubes fit nicely in my carry-on suitcase

http://amzn.to/2rHWUUa  I love travel cubes are one of the best travel products because they allow me to plan ahead and pack some essentials. This is not easy for me as I tend to do things at the last minute. I have been using Eagle Creek size medium for several years and they still look new. I pack my essentials like undergarments, pajamas, allergy pillow covers, and toiletries a week ahead in one cube. Beachwear, towel, and sunscreen for warm weather in another. For colder weather gloves, thermals, sweaters, and jackets ( unless I wear it during travel)  A few days ahead I roll my shirts for easy viewing in another cube. I usually try to pack dresses and pants as flat as possible on top of the cubes to avoid wrinkling.

When I arrive at my destination I hang up the dresses and pants. I place the packing cubes in drawers without the need to take everything out. It keeps my things clean and organized.

2)The Demi Hugger.    http://amzn.to/2rIbXNw  It allows me to carry additional items on my rolling suitcase. I usually use a large bag or purse to hold things I can not be without: medications, a large scarf if the plane gets cold, a change of clothes, snacks, a cell phone, and a tablet. You can use a  carry-on suitcase with a large bag (that fits under the seat) secured on top with the Demi Hugger. Eliminate the need to check luggage which saves you time and money. Oops! I almost forgot to tell you that I fold or roll my Demi Hugger and use it as a back or neck rest when flying.

3) Sanitizing Hand Wipes and Disinfectant Wipes. Wipe the tray table on the plane and remote control and light switches at the hotel. Studies have shown the remote and light switches to be the dirtiest things in a hotel room.

An enjoyable morning reading my book outside

Vacation in your own backyard. I am relaxing outside on a beautiful morning reading my book, “Writing Tools” by Roy Peter Clark, which was gifted to me by my literary son.

Relaxing in my backyard with a good book surrounded by the sounds of nature. The warmth of the morning sun, birds chirping, and a cool breeze make me feel like I am on vacation. I feel rejuvenated and inspired to start an enjoyable and successful day.

The early part of a summer day is the best time to read outside because the heat and humidity promise to creep in as the day progresses. Although the evening should cool off to a pleasant temperature it is accompanied by mosquitos. Sitting on patio chairs in a screened room is nice but it lacks the feeling of being one with nature.

Enjoy the outdoors as much as you can. The fresh air and harmonious sounds of nature will soothe and inspire you.

What do you do to rejuvenate and inspire yourself for a great day?

Braving the 2020 Pandemic into 2021

The year 2020 has been rough

We’ve had to prove that we are tough

We must remember those we have lost

While still enjoying the winter frost.

Our self-restraint has been put to the test

Wearing masks for everyone’s health is best

Social distancing is still a must

Large gatherings are still a bust

We have found new ways to socialize

proving that we are both strong and wise

The pandemic is hard to contain

So, vigilant we must remain

Vaccination, masks, and distancing are our best chance

To keep the virus from its advance

Even with a vaccine, containment is hard

It will be a while before we let up our guard

Thank you to all our health care personnel

And researchers for their dedication and a job done well

Travel Safely During the Pandemic

Many of us will travel for business, vacation, or to visit family. Yes, visiting family far away is hopefully considered a pleasurable vacation. My point is many of us will travel and we need to be as safe as possible.

Last week my husband and I spent the week in Vermont. It is the first time I have stayed anyplace but my home in the last 5 months. That’s right I have not even gone to the market. We were seriously considering forfeiting our traditional week at the Trapp Family lodge. I am sure glad we decided to go.

This is how we made it work. First, we both got tested for COVID 19 as required by the state of Vermont. After receiving our negative results, it was time to quickly plan. OK, I admit it, I had already started packing.

As a family, we decided that only people living in our house should go. It was a difficult decision which disappointed our extended family. I truly missed spending time with my children and great-nephews. As an asthmatic and over 62, my children are very protective, and would not come, even if invited.

We used allergy covers for the couch and bedding, disinfectant sprays alcohol and wipes on all surfaces as well as switches, remote controls, and bathroom. We even put all the dishes through the high-temperature cycle in the dishwasher. After setting up we were comfortable for the week. Wait I meant to say 6 days, the lodge was leaving all units, after a thorough cleaning, empty for a day between guests.

We enjoyed outdoor activities of bike riding, kayaking, picnicking, and hiking. No eating out. We didn’t even spend time at the beautiful outdoor pool because it was too crowded. Obviously, we were very cautious and washed or disinfected our hands frequently and wore masks. Since this was a driving trip, we only made one stop at a large rest area. Wearing masks and hand washing was essential. I admit I was nervous, but the rest area was so clean, and I went through very quickly.

Taking the above precautions made us feel safe while enjoying a great vacation together.

The Demi Hugger travel aid is receiving some much-deserved recognition, having been recently featured in the “Best Travel Items for 2020 & Holiday Gifts for Travelers” for the “52 Perfect Days” blog as a result of their participation in the 2019 Travel Goods Show.

Demi Hugger is proud to announce a four-state media tour beginning on March 7, 2020, which will include TV and radio spots on major networks: ABC Detroit, Michigan, on WXYZ and WMYD Weekend Morning News; FOX Baltimore, MD, on FOX 45 Morning News; NBC Nashville, Tennessee, on WSMV “Today in Nashville”; CW Network, Indianapolis, Indiana, on WISH-TV “Indy Style”; and FOX Grand Rapids, Michigan, on the Fox17 Morning Mix.

The product’s inventor, Greek-American Demetra Papas, said she is “happy that many more people will hear about my helpful and easy-to-use travel aid.”

The Demi Hugger is a soft, lightweight, stretchable strap that attaches to a suitcase handle and then securely hugs items like coats, pillows, and tote bags. With the Demi Hugger, people can move easily through airports and train terminals knowing all their items are held securely in place.

A family-owned business, the Demi Hugger is the result of searching for and designing a product that would ultimately solve the family’s travel problems. When traveling there was always trouble carrying a heavy shoulder bag containing necessities like makeup, wallet, ticket, passport, medications, snacks, and wet naps while wheeling luggage. The bag would inevitably slip off and spill on the ground.

Demetra observed that many others were experiencing the same problem with items like backpacks, pillows, blankets, shopping bags, and baby bags. After experimenting with several combinations of fabrics and designs, and consulting with travelers and manufacturers, she designed a practical and simple luggage strap with tremendous flexibility. The Demi Hugger can support many combinations of luggage and travel articles with ease and comfort.

Holiday travel is coming fast upon us and for many—especially those who travel to visit family and friends—it can be very stressful. Besides all the buying of gifts, parties, and dinner plans, travel is a huge concern and only adds to the chaos of the holiday season.

We’d like to share some helpful tips for holiday travel that will make your trip less stressful and more enjoyable.

1) Plan ahead. Book flights early.

Avoid those travel dates that everyone else wants, like those that create a long weekend or have you returning on a Sunday. Shop prices and book ahead—it’s sure to save you money.

Plan ahead for flight delays and avoid tight connections. Book a direct flight if possible.

2) Shop around for hotel rates.

If you’re not staying at a relative’s or friend’s home, shop around for hotel rates. Use Expedia or Orbitz to find good rates. This is important, especially in big cities where hotels fill up fast at holiday times.

3) Pack sparingly.

If you’re only going away for a few days and there will be laundry facilities available, just bring enough clothing for a couple days. Wear the same outfit when you leave as when you arrived. Then it’s really only toiletries and under garments left to pack.

Mail gifts ahead rather than taking them on the plane. This saves time and effort—and probably money—as most airlines now charge for checked baggage.  If you can survive with just a carry-on bag, do it and avoid waiting at baggage claim.

Also be aware of the TSA rules regarding liquids, etc. and avoid delays in that department.

4) Provide yourself some creature comforts.

Bring along a good book, a snack, a light sweater or shawl should you get chilly, a travel pillow, headphones and your favorite music, even ear plugs. A comfortable traveler is a happy traveler.
